I am now the proud owner of a vintage Singer Deluxe Monogrammer attachment kit in the rare vertical needle version (V171278). The attachment fits my vintage Viking 1010 sewing machine which has a zig zag function but does not fit my computerized Viking Platinum 770.

There are two versions of the Singer Deluxe Monogrammer. One version that's widely available on ebay works with only the Singer Slanted Needle machines. The vertical needle version that I have pops up on ebay about every month or so. I paid $15 plus $10 shipping for my kit.

The Singer Deluxe Monogrammer kit produces monograms that are 1.5" in height. There is another type of Singer Monogrammer that uses circular cams and produces small monograms, but it only works with Singer's slanted needle machines.

I tried my Deluxe Monogrammer for the first time this morning and it worked perfectly. There are 27 cams oblong cams available for the Deluxe Monogrammer, the 26 letters of the alphabet and one flower cam.

Each cam is a different length and produces a letter or flower that is 1.5" high. This photo shows the box, the device hooked up to my Viking, and the oblong cam. There's also a sewn sample in black, but it's hard to see, Here's another photo of the flower I stitched this morning. I added artificial colors in photoshop to increase the contrast.

Unfortunately, my kit contained only the flower and none of the letters. So I'm very eager to find cams for the two letters I need for my monogram, the "N" and the "R."

I think it would be fun to add a monogram to the inside lining of my faux fur jackets to simulate the embroidered initials often seen in real fur coats. Other than that, I'm not sure how I'll use the monogrammer. The 1.5" letters are too small for embroidering on towels or pillow cases. But if I ever start sewing jeans, it might be fun to add my initials to the back pocket.

Ebay carries individual letter cams from time to time for about $10 each plus shipping. But unfortunately none of the three letters that are now available are the ones I need.

Lisalu, you should do an advanced search for "Monogrammer Vertical" and "Monogrammer V171278" on ebay, then click the box that says "Save this search to my ebay," and finally click the box that says "Email me daily when new items match my search." That's what I did, and it took about three or four weeks before I received an email saying the item was available.

Also while it's hard to amass a complete set of cams, I don't believe it's that hard to find cams for individual letters. A couple of weeks ago there was an "N" and also an "R" for sale on ebay, but I didn't buy them because I wasn't sure the Monogrammer would work on my Viking. And right now, there are three individual letters for sale, as well as two complete sets, one for $250 and the other for about $180.

I sold a Janome version of this monogrammer on ebay a couple of years ago. It didn't sell for as much as I thought it would, but I hope the owner is as happy as you are! Enjoy your new toy!!

Let me go through my stash and see what I've got laying around. If I have the ones you need, I can send them out to you.

This morning I bought the Sears Kenmore version of the Singer Deluxe Monogrammer attachment on ebay because it contained the letter "R", as well as a decorative buttonhole embroidery cam in place of the Singer flower cam.

From my online research on the different types of monogrammers, I understand this particular Sears attachment is identical in every way to the Singer Deluxe. But please note that Sears has a different vintage monogrammer(the one that came in the brown book like boxes) that is not compatible.

With this purchase, I still need the letter "N", but I will now have one extra Monogrammer that should work in vertical needle, zig zag machines, as well as one letter "E" that I don't need.

You could use the monogram on purses and wallets.
Maybe someone in the Yahoo group - Singer attachments might have the letter N.
