Date: 4/6/12 11:02 PM A few months ago I asked for help trying to decide on a design for my bulldog's perla bed cover. As soon as I saw the posts about English paper piecing, I knew that was the perfect solution! I needed a design that was NOT one shape over and over, but various shapes, to fit a very rigid specific design.
What a learning experience! I made a HUGE mistake. After piecing togethr the top border, I realized the little bit of fabric folded over the pattern piece x many many pieces made the finished piece too big. So I had to pick apart a few of the border pieces and make them smaller.
This was after I had already sewn the hexagon-ish pieces together too. So I knew it was going to be too big overall. So I trimmed ALL the yet -uncut divider diamonds and triangles pattern pieces.
Of course that meant they were now shorter than the already sewn pieces, so I had to pick ALL them apart and re-sew them to fit the now shorter pieces. (sigh)
Hand sewing allows for some serious fudging and finagling, so I was able to make it all work out in the end!
Here is a (hopefully working) link to the photo album. The pics loaded backwards, so start at the end and go in reverse to get the progression.

snapped double layer bottom so I can take the stabilizer out for washing

quilting done!

the cushion will be dark brown microsuede with an appliqued bulldog. My girl is a fluffer, she does not like a thick cushion she likes blankets to fluff, so I will make her 2 quilts with the Max and Whiskers fabric. The applique pieces are cut but not sewn yet.

Nicely done and I bet your baby loves it.
