I've just been sorting through my holiday photos from my recent trip to Tunisia. I really enjoyed the fabrics I saw whilst there. As they are so different from anything I see in the shops I thought for those who haven't been there you might like to have a look.

So, here they are. Enjoy!

Thanks for showing us your pictures. I also take heaps of photos of fabrics and patterns when travelling. I'm unlikely to ever make it to that part of the world, though!!

They are striking colors and fabrics! I find the mosaics really interesting. Are they made on a loom and heavier weight? Thanks for posting this!

hi Hazelnut

I'm sorry, I should have made things clearer. The mosaics are roman in origin, and I found them stunning. Some of them are such high quality they could have been created a few years ago. Even though I am not a big quilter (just finished my first yesterday!) I was still struck by the shared qualities in design between quilts and mosaics.

The square grid layout led me to consider copying a mosaics as inspiration as you could easily count the number of squares needed for each colour. A project for another time, as I have a set of drawers already full of fabric waiting for me to sew in to projects.

p.s If you would like to see more mosaic photos I can upload a few more. The ones I have included are just floor patterns. I took several others with a lot more detail.

Ah, thank you for the explanation. It would make a beautiful quilt "as is" for me, if it were from fabric. lol If you'd care to upload a few more photos, that would be great! Thanks

as requested, I've uploaded the mosaic photos under a new folder. So if you are interested, please click here.

Let's just say I think they put some modern work to shame!

Thanks so much for sharing those, what magnificient works of art - so detailed, different and revealing! You are so right about that one capturing the movement of the tigers, wow! Are people still doing these mosaics, or has it become another lost art, like so many things sadly are? I really enjoyed looking at the photos - we never travelled, so all I can do is look and enjoy from afar. It was like a mini art/history lesson this morning, thank you for that!
