I pulled some Spring/Summer fabrics from my stash to start warm weather sewing, after not getting much done this winter. I want to finish the jenius class first and get a couple pair of pants done. But then . . .

Hopefully these will turn into some nice blouses and light weight jackets.

Does anyone else have anything ready to start?

For some reason, most of my stash is winter fabrics. I just had to make several online orders for summer linen, cotton, and rayons.

I tend to wear out my summer clothes faster than winter clothes, probably due to more washing (most of my winter work slacks are wool). Right now, I need to make some casual shirts, several pairs of pants, and some gardening clothes that I can treat with permethrin to repel ticks.

I have summer fabrics, but don't seem to use them as much. I did make some casual tops and jeans for at home wear, but there is nothing to wear out of the house this summer. I'm trying to use up the nice fabrics because otherwise they will never get used. Also there are some older light weight skirt fabrics in the stash that are still around. They can be used for the more sheer tunic type tops that are in the stores now.

I have been making some skirts and t-shirt tops, oh an that wrap top skirt set I made, I don't seem to have as much time for sewing, tax season takes quite a bit of time however it is over this weekend. Also, with warmer weather comes outdoor projects and gardening. Is it just me or are summer things a little easier and less time consuming in themselves. Simple dresses, t-shirts, shorts, and short sleever mean no cuffs to deal with. Oh, and no jackets blazers or coats. I don't like the swimsuit I made last summer so I am goign to give it one more shot.

I think my problem in part is that I tend to be uninspired by summer fashions or patterns. I don't like dresses, skirts, ruffles, gathers, flounces, puffed sleeves or most of the detailing that has been fashionable for the past decade. I also don't wear anything sleeveless or with short/cap sleeves, and I don't like to wear layers (like a sheer over a camisole) in the summer because it is just too hot.

This does not leave a lot of options. :)

Mostly I wear camp shirts or ratty t-shirts at home, linen pants and shorts, and lightweight jackets to work (where the A/C can be a bit much). This year I have worn out most of my camp shirts and casual pants, and my other pants don't fit due to recently being unable to eat anything but soup for 5 months due to a dental fiasco. Argh.

So, much sewing is in order. I think I am going to break out some Sewing Workshop patterns and make some wacky things since work has a pretty flexible range of acceptable dress.

Have to laugh because it is always so warm here in Florida but I still get seasonal bugs for sewing. Maybe more because everything gets worn all the time. Have gotten in linen blends, lawn (probably a mistake, I am not really a lawn type), seersucker, lightweight corded cotton...and 10 patterns. Yes, I've got the itch!!

It doesn't get terribly cold in Southern California either, but I do have a couple pieces of wool. We have about 2 or 3 months of Fall weather and the 9 months of late Spring and Summer.

So, my fabrics have arrived:

fabrics for gardening clothes, mostly ripstop cotton and linens. Will be treated with permethrin and kept quarantined due to poison ivy infestation.

new camp shirts except maybe not the cat one, which is a slightly heavier linen/cotton blend.

new work shirts. Might make up the SW Bells shirt in a test fabric first, the lovely black/white stripey fabric from Metro was not cheap.

casual pants, thrift store linen and rayon challis (the print)

assorted linens, browns for pants, orange for a work jacket, green is lighter weight, maybe a shirt

Now the I'm not sure set:

mustard rayon challis with large print: maybe a tunic sort of thing?

more rayon challis, again not sure

modal? rayon knit, very lightweight and silky. Terrible colors for me, couldn't resist. Only ~42" wide, but I have 3 yards or so. Was thinking this New Look 6648, but the pattern envelope says 60" wide fabric only, and I need to investigate why that is. Plus, the nature of the print is going to require careful placement.

I have a few things I want to make for the summer. The weather is just beginning to heat up now so I've got the urge to do summery stuff. I just picked up some very pretty cotton print and pink linen for a dress for my daughter. She's been wanting a pretty dress and requested pink and white, go figure... a teenage tomboy wanting a pink dress.

And I kinda want to have a comfortable dress for summer too. I bought a cheapie $10.00 dress that I want to copy in a nice drapey rayon knit. Maybe make some shorts/capris as well. I think it would be much more comfortable than wearing long pants all the time. Which seems to be all I have in my closet now...

I'll sew along with you. Warm weather is here & I'm ready to sew some summer items. Those are pretty fabrics, especially the orange print.
