Date: 4/12/12 3:34 PM I just had a new baby grandson and I am looking for things to sew for him. I have already made a diaper bag, a quilt, blocks, circle rings, crinkle blanket, hat and shoes. Does anyone have new ideas to make for a little boy. I haven't tried clothing yet, since not many patterns out there for little boys. I also am going to a baby shower and want a unquie gift to make to go with my diaper bag and boppy. All suggestions welcom.

Wow, you've already sewn a lot of great stuff:). I love to make blanket, burp cloth and matching onesie sets. You've already done a blanket and quilt, how about decorating 2 or 3 plain cloth diapers with the fabric/ colors from you diaper bag? I buy the diaper service quality diapers from cotton babies.com ( NAYY) and embroider or appliqué them. They are fantastic! My mom also made several for me where she just ran two or three borders of decorative stitches on the ends...very cute and useful. I also have appliqued a onesie or two to match before...after having my own child I would try to find those adorable little side snap shirts instead for a newborn. ------ Raye Ann

As far as things to sew go, maybe a hooded towel, along with some flannel-backed washcloths (here's just one example of some sewn washcloths)? I have a 5 month old baby myself, and soft towels and washcloths are two things you can never have enough of, in my experience. I recently made a sleep sack (bunting) for a friend who had a baby boy. I chose a cute, boy-friendly quilting cotton for the outside and lined it with minky. Sleep sacks are especially useful in the winter, now that experts advise against using blankets of any sort in the baby's crib. One last suggestion is this shopping cart cover. Full disclosure: I have never sewn this pattern, and looking at the reviews, it seems the instructions are severely lacking in clarity. However, I think it's a really great gift idea. Check out the baby patterns as they have many that would work with the fleece. They also make I love Mommy and Daddy flannel which would be good for receiving blankets and bibs. However, because you are THE GRANDMA (like me) I would definitely make something out of I love Grandma flannel Have fun being Grandma!!! EDITED TO ADD: Oh DARN!!! I just checked the links I made and they all say discontinued from Hancock's! I didn't notice that till now. However, I was in a Hancock's a couple weeks ago and they did have a big bolt of mommy/daddy in fleece. I noticed it as I walked by. I made a pair of shoes last night....can't wait to try them on him tonight, as I am having grammy time and a sleep over. I was looking last night and found a few fabric book panels. I know you can definately buy them cheaper, but then I can't say look what grammy made you. Would love more ideas....

That interrupts everybody's sleep and nobody is happy. I'd suggest you make sleepers for when the time comes. Think baptismal gown, except warmer and roomier. Depending on how cold it is in the nursery at night, make it with long sleeves or simple straps. The child wears this over his regular PJs. I had a couple of store-bought sleepers like this, and it ensured a good-night sleep for all. They were made from poly or cotton with some sort of batting, everything was flame retardent, I am sure. I wouldn't use fleece because it's not warm enough and it's static. Claudia
