From Bernina's website:
Microsoft is planning to introduce their new operating system (Windows 8) in autumn 2012. MyLabel won't be compatible with Windows 8 and therefore it will be taken from the market.
BERNINA keeps providing patterns or modifications four times a year. The patterns as well as the modifications are available for free until the end of 2012.

Wow. Makes me very glad I never bought MyLabel. I am a bit surprised given how long (25 years?) Bernina will support its sewing machines with parts. Seems like quite a different policy for MyLabel.

My Label didn't sell very well. It took a long time to develolp the software and the sales didn't cover the cost.

Interesting. I too was very interested in it, but it was out of my budget. I can understand no updates or support, but the timing sort of stinks. Just because MS rolls out Windows 8 doesn't mean everyone will be moving to that. I'm still using XP. I'd think they could support the current customers for a while longer than the end of this year. I suppose they have been selling even fewer updates than original package??

I wonder - was MyLabel a good idea that didn't quite live up to the advertising, or could it have been advertised differently? It seems that even in the Bernina dealer near me, it wasn't advertised much (1 sign?), but then it's also a quilt shop, not an apparel fabric shop. I recall a flurry of interest here on PR, followed by "it costs how much?!?!, and then discussions tapered off after that. Given the price of Berninas, not to mention the lack of dealers in some locations, I'd think they'd have realized that it was going to take more than an ad in sewing magazines to get the word out to more garment sewers.

Just occurred to me...think they will sell off remaining copies at bargain prices?

I don't believe it was developed by Bernina. The idea for the home sewer may have come from Bernina but the actual software was developed by OptiTex. And licensed to Bernina.

I don't think the problem was lack of advertising -- the problem was the product itself. I attended a live demonstration of MyLabel when it first came out a few years ago, and I was not impressed. The program was woefully overpriced, overloaded with useless features (like the "button library") that have nothing to do with drafting a well fitting pattern, and extremely limited when it comes to style. Bernina is using the introduction of Windows 8 as a convenient excuse to call it quits.

I have used ML for about 4 years now and I love it. It took awhile to get the measurements down, but once that was done, it think it is great. I think they should have marketed it outside of licensed Bernina Dealers, and there would have been more of an interest. I have met quite a few people who had never heard of it. I don't think it was more expensive than other computer generated patterns, esp. you got 4 free patterns a year, and the others usually charged separately for pants, blouses, etc. There were some useless features, like the buttons, but overall it was a good product. I agree they should provide support for those who have it up and running. At least keep the relevant sewing tips related to the patterns on the site.

This is a product that I looked at a few times but never did purchase because of the cost. I had spent a bundle (twice) on some pattern drafting software that was an epic fail for me and was worried about a repeat. Sorry to hear they are dropping out. Maybe if it was half the price they would have sold three times as many....
