Puckered Wrinkled Fabric How do you cut it out?

I was going to make a simple, loose fitting top or dress to wear layered. I don't know how to pin it. If I smooth it out to cut it, the seams will pull unevenly. If I cut it as is, won't it hang unevenly at the hemline and seamline? I don't mind funky. Do I just go with the flow??? This one has me stumped. -- Edited on 4/21/12 5:17 AM -- ------ Lalaland

Hum... How about using a really thin interfacing or some of that dissolving stuff for embroidery for the seam allowances, slightly overlapping the seam stitch line and hemline stitch line? Just to stabilize the areas during construction? Date: 4/20/12 4:14 PM I suppose you mean a 'crinkled mesh knit,' although I LOVE the idea of a 'mess knit,' because that's what they can seem like! Is the fabric something like this? If the fabric 'wants' to be crinkly, as it does in this garment, then you would lay out and cut it just as it lies, without smoothing or stretching. But would you prefer not to have the crinkles?

Then sewed it up and laundered. The wrinkles came back and all is fine. Just make sure that there is ease in the garment because it will be a little smaller. ------ Marilyn January 2009 to January 2010 81 yards out and 71yards in January 2010 to the present 106.7 yards out and 146.5 yards in. January 2011 to the present: 47 yards out and 69 yards in.

I would not flatten it. Bigger seam allowances might be needed to keep the elastics from pulling out of seams. Good luck with your garment.

This is one kind of fabric that I actually pin my patterns onto the fabric and after I cut the pieces out I leave them pinned until it's time to sew. ------ JanieV
