1 member likes this. Date: 4/22/12 1:42 PM The latest Vogue Pattern Magazine shows an as yet unreleased Claire Shaeffer pattern for a Chanel style jacket. It will have a 3 piece sleeve like the discontinued V8259, shoulder princess seams on the front and a small underarm panel. Since the new pattern, like the old one, is for Vogue's custom couture collection, I am hoping that it will include Claire's extensive instructions on making a couture version. The line drawings show quilting lines.
I am currently working my way through a Chanel inspired jacket using the old 8259. I work at such a glacially slow pace that I don't know if I will finish it in time to wear it this spring, but I will review the pattern when I am finished. I am also collecting Chanel inspired patterns, so I will certainly buy this one as soon as it is available. I am hoping that it will be released this week as BMV is having a big sale through Wednesday. I have also recently gotten the StyleArc Coco Jacket Pattern

Date: 4/22/12 2:31 PM I'm so glad you posted this. I saw the article in Vogue Pattern mag and I've been looking for the pattern! I must have overlooked that it isn't out yet. I'm working on jackets this year, and would love to give this one a try!
I'd heard that she included a quick method with previous jackets as well as couture. I'm hoping that's the case with this one too, because even 'quick' methods can take me more than a year to finish! :) |

Date: 4/22/12 2:36 PM For me, Claire Schaeffer is the Jacket Queen. I've been sewing forever, but never tackled a structured, tailored jacket. I finally did it using only her tips from HIGH-FASHION SEWING SECRETS and the result was OUTstanding!

Date: 4/22/12 2:42 PM I'm working on 8259 now. I'm just about finishing up with the fitting on the body only, I'll be tackling the sleeves next. I'll have to go into J's and see if the magazine is there. Is it a reprint of the 8259 exactly or is it slightly different?

Date: 4/22/12 3:52 PM The new pattern looks somewhat different from 8259: the upper pockets are lower on the new pattern, the side panel doesn't snow from the back view and there is no collar. The new one is rated average difficulty whereas 8259 is advanced. The size ranges are different, too: the old one is 6-8-10 in the smaller size range, while the new one is 6-8-10-12-14 in the smaller size range and 14-16-18-20-22 in the larger size range.
The example jacket shown in the magazine is quilted to the edges with no facing piece, whereas the older pattern has facings. Until I get my hands on the new pattern I can't tell if the fit is different, since the model is wearing it open. |

Date: 4/23/12 8:27 AM I've been trying to hunt down a reasonably priced 8259 for a couple of years now. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for this upcoming pattern to be similar in construction details, how exciting! ------ I'm finally a blogger!

Date: 4/23/12 1:19 PM In the Vogue Patterns magazine guide to backviews and fabric requirements, it says SF Lined Jacket 1-7/8. All 45" wide.
That's best I can find in the magazine.
