Is my crotch length weird?

So, I decided to take a break from making shirts. Pull-on, drawstring, capri pants are my new venture. Yes, I measured carefully...yes, I chose the size one larger than my hip measurement. When I slipped into the pinned tissue, I was dumbfounded! The back waist was at least 4 inches lower than my waistline!
My hip measurement is 45" so I expected these pants to be pretty simple to fit. I've made pants for myself before and do remember having to lengthen the back rise a little, but not 4 inches. Just to be sure I wasn't missing some rise from the drawstring casing/waistband, I pinned that on, too. Still, WAY short. Now I'm paranoid. I even asked my husband, "Now, honey, tell me the truth. Is my butt weird? I mean, it looks like a normal butt, right?"
I can't find any fitting problem remotely like this online or in my fitting books. I see examples of a tilted waist (lower in front, which I have), but the center back in those photos misses the elastic band by only about an inch.
Someone, anyone! Please tell me you've had a similar experience!

Any chance that the pattern you chose is supposed to be low waist, but you are hiking the front up, and that is pulling the back forward and down?

I have found a lot of the new drawstring patterns have a waist that sits on your hips--I prefer a higher waist so I have to watch for the right pattern. I have a tummy, so often have to make adjustments for my tummy.

The pattern is for a waist that sits about 1 inch below the natural waist. This is pretty common and fits me, as a rule, in RTW. It's just that there's a big difference between 1" and 4", you know?

Yeah, that seems like there is an issue with the pattern!

OOOOH that sounds so much like the commerical with Mrs. Lincoln asking honest Abe "does this dress make me look big", or something like that. Most husbands will tell you what they think you want to know.

Measure your rise and compare with the pattern tissue. Adjust as needed.

Keep the measurement handy just in case this is a design trend.

schmammy, 4" sounds like a lot. I've got a lot junk in my trunk but rarely do I add 4"s. Just a random thought, is there any chance you had the pants on backwards? I've done that (more than once). With pull on pants that don't have any styling, the front and back look the same. Could very well be that the pattern was drafted for people with no butts but that's unlikely.

That is my issues - you add a wedge in the back of the pattern piece as in this blog post by a very helpful someone I do not know!

Wedge added in the back pattern piece

I found this blog searching for a picture of the wedge without having to draw one myself. I have used this method because it just seems I always need it - except on Burda patterns, where I only need a bit of a higher line in back - say only an inch.

EDITED to say that your pattern is probably one of our big 4? Not Burda? OR Lutterloh? Both Burda and Lutterloh and also Ottobre have a much better CC.

Hmmm...I've seen that wedge in other articles. Here is what I did:
(see the WEDGE link)

Note that my wedge is about 3" below the crotch point and made in addition to adding to the rise/crotch length.
Should I try the other one next time?

I actually thought about having the tissue on backward and checked that! There's only about 3" difference between my waist and my full hip. Do you guys think that has anything to do with it?

we didn't want to say anything, but since you asked....

I've usually steered away from seeing pants, partly for this reason, but haven't just tried one of Louise Cutting's patterns, I may change my mind... her instructions of checking and adjusting the crotch were great,,,,,

So, maybe what I did isn't a wedge? Maybe it's a tuck....
