http://archive.org/ has a great digital library including great sewing, drafting and dyeing books. You have to get creative with the search terms. Below are some of my finds:

So we thought this tracing pattern thing was time consuming. Check out people use to draft their own patterns. Here's one for men's ware. Stylish, huh?

Here's a great one on fitting, construction and hand stitches.

You couldn't buy Rit or iDye at the store so here's a book on dyeing fabric.

This one is my favorite. This booklet is full of fantastic advertisements. Dress forms for $1-15, patterns for $0.10, maternity corsets?!! It's a page turner.

Wow, thanks for showing these links. I especially liked the ad for wrinkle removers on page 58 of the booklet with the ads!!

That's a great ad. It reads just like the ads today. You just need to substitute the pictures.

Not really. Archive.org uses Library of Congress Headings, which are a tad more consistent than your average bookstore's subject categories. Alas, "Google Books" does not care for such distinction, and many patternmaking books are shelved in the "Art" section.

Try "Dressmaking" or "Tailoring (Women's)".

This was so fun! Thanks for the post. Don't you wish you had hours to look over all this history and actually try some of these interesting methods. But alas I am here stuck at work...opening mail!

Wow! These are great fun to look at!

Check out "Table of Proportional Measurements for Women" on page 17 of the American Designer and cutter book (first link listed)

I am just too out of proportion to have lived back then, plus, I appear to be taller than the women of that time.
