Date: 5/7/12 7:44 AM Need some advice/help - I made the cutest raincoat from oil cloth with matching hat. Problem is the oilcloth is very stiff. Does anyone know of a way to permanently soften the fabric?? |

Date: 5/7/12 4:04 PM I think it's supposed to be stiff, and have the same hand as what ever you just buy it at each time, because it was original for table cloths and floor cloths and to line maybe kitchen drawers with and such. I think no way to soften it up, and keep the original look and finish and still wipe off kind of more water proof properties of it though.
If lets say for a wall hanging or such, and if you wanted it to be very changed in hand and just look very different, then I think you could put it in the clothes washing machine and hot clothes dryer, over and over again, and sooner or later (probably sooner) I think you would have that more plasticy kind of finish, cracking and peeling off of it, just like lots of coated with stuff fabric. Or you could iron it, and maybe melt some of the top heat bonded finish, but again, probably not the look you are going after at all either! |
