This is my first post so Hello to all...

I searched through the machine reviews and there is not one on the Janome MC 3500. I have an opportunity to purchase one, used of course, for 175.00 and it comes with all the original accessories and manuel etc.. But I would really like to hear from owners and previous owners of the 3500.. So any info you can give me would be much appreciated...

I plan on doing garment sewing and try my hand at quilting. Some home decor possibly. And teach my 13 year old to sew as well.

Thanks...

I have this gem of a machine. I love it and have had it for about 8 to 10 yrs, I believe.

Could you tell me the pros and any cons, even little ones. I think 175 is a really good deal. I saw one on ebay for 350...

What do you use the machine for: garment, quilting, decor??? As much info as you can would be great.. Thanks so much!!!

I've owned this machine for 12 years. Its solidly built and has been really reliable. It can be a bit fussy with topstitching thread but alot of machines are like this.

The auto tension is good and you don't have to change it often. It has adjustable pressure for different types of fabrics. I like the needle position can be moved quite a few times which is good for topstitching, edgestitching, etc.

My only problem is I don't think I like computerised machines. I hate pressing buttons to change stitch length and width. Also, I have only used about 6 stitches in total out of the 50 or so available. The light isn't very bright but I just use an additional lamp. I find the automatic buttonhole fiddly to use and it can go a bit haywire sometimes.

To be honest I'm saving for a mechanical (possibly a secondhand old-style Bernina) machine but I will keep this machine as a backup. I wouldn't sell this machine as I said it is solid. I was in a dealer the other day and looked at the new Janomes and they looked plasticky.

I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks so much...yes it helps a lot. I can get that machine for 175 used or consider a new one, like the dc2010/11/12, dc 3050 or IDK...The more I read and research the more confusing it gets...LOL thank you for the info...
