Want a new cowl neck?
Try this from a standard shell.

I copied a dressy RTW cowl by taking its measurements in the store. This is for a separate cowl, not all-in-one foldover type.

After sewing shoulder and side seams of a standard shell pattern, measure down 7" from shoulders in center front and re-curve center to that.
The cowl piece is 14" wide, folded WST to a 7" width, and the length around your neckline. Sew that end seam, fold WST and sew the cowl around the neckline. I used an ITY remnant and it fell softly. I like to use another flutter sleeve pattern with this to make a dressier top or it can be sleeveless. Looks great under a suit--scarf effect.

Check, before cutting, your choice of back and front neckline depths, depending on weight of your fabric, and width of cowl you want. You could pin a cowl piece on first to see how deep it falls for modesty in the front.

Excellent!
For a really easy cowl I also take my Tshirt pattern, slash it across the waist leaving side seam connected and spread out, add a cut on facing straight accross the top from neck edge to center front.
You can spread it out as far as how deep you want to drape.

I was thinking about making this.

Guess it's a barrel shaped tube with sleeves near the center.

I have a sweater knit on my cutting table right now and think it should be a cowl. Picked up a Vogue pattern a few days ago. This will be my first cowl. It is for my DDI and I need to do a FBA first.

What is "WST", please?

Edit: It must be "wrong side together" Sorry I'm so slow!
