Convert knit to lightweight cotton Vogue pattern V8731

It's fairly fitted through the shoulders and bust. If you make it bigger it won't look as sleek. Depending on how large-busted you are, you might also have to do something with or in addition to those pleats to get it to fit properly. Also, if you make it in a cotton, it won't drape the way a knit would. It will stand away from your body more than the pattern would made up in a knit. It's much easier to make a pattern made for wovens up in a knit than it is to make a pattern made for knits up in a woven. Vogue 8731 ------ I am going for a level of perfection that is only mine... The reason is that patterns designed for knits tend to be quite close fitting, relying on the inherent stretch of the fabric for much of the shaping. Patterns for wovens are cut looser and rely on darts and seams and closures (zippers, buttons) to bring the garment close to the body. Of course, if you have a lightweight woven fabric and don't mind sacrificing it to an experiment, you can make the pattern up and see how it goes. beauturbo Advanced CA USA Member since 5/2/09 Posts: 1443	Login to reply to this post In reply to Nannies << Like this post Date: 5/10/12 4:36 PM If you got to go with a woven, I think it would be better with a very thin, drape-able kind of fabric, more like chiffon, or crepe or even woven thinner, softer rayon, or even cotton gauze or such and at least just cut all of it on the bias. That would give you a bit more built in stretch, and maybe some soft drape under those front tucks on it. I don't know if the sleeves would really also have to be cut on the bias, or you might be able to get them on the straight of grain or not? Maybe even would depend of what size you would cut too? If it was just most light weight plain woven cotton though, cut on the regular straight grain of it, not only could you probably not move your arms full motion anymore, even if you could somehow get it on and off, but the front draping bits under the front tucks, would not drape well, and would be sticking out probably funny like, in a way you would not like all that much.

It would lend itself to become a crinkle top if you were to cut it larger- the fabric would have some give. (http://www.ehow.com/how_7169104_twist-wash-crinkle-skirt.html) If you have the fabric to spare, it's worth a try- it doesn't use much fabric and it is quick to make.
