Presser foot for FMQ

I'd like to try FMQ with my sm, but I haven't bought any specialized foot yet. My SM is a Bernina 530 but I'm waiting a few month before splurging on the BSR to see if I'm into quilting big time. Which Bernina foot is best in your opinion for FMQ ? (i have #20&37) Tia ! ------ Always a novice

Date: 5/11/12 2:48 AM I recommend the Freehand Embroidery Foot #24. When I took a FMQ class using my 440, the teacher recommended that foot. I find it works as well for me personally as using the BSR. I have the BSR, but I think it is more about practice than anything else. Date: 5/11/12 2:53 AM Did #9 come standard with your machine? I have at least 4 of them, lol, as they came with mine. #24 is probably better, but you could start with the #9. It came in a tiny white cardboard box with at least one of my machines. My FMQ is rubbish without the BSR and not great with it, but I need more practice. ------ 🌸 Plenty of machines, mostly Berninas 🌸

I'll order also some quilting thread + monofil. I have a choice between madeira monofil #40 in white and Madeira monofil #60 in black. With insight, which one do you use most ? (fyi, I can only shop 1 or 2 times a year bc I'm living in a dev. country where deliveries are not often possible. I hate the #29 and never use it. I get too much glare on the plastic and can't see where I'm going. I prefer the #24 (open)... when it works. It gives me the best visibility (important whether or not following a line, you get your best results when you can see where you are going). Unfortunately, if there is too much going on in the quilt, it's easy for these little prongs to catch on stuff (like the edges of applique or even other quilt lines). Then I use my #9. Remotion stitching with the BSR or not, the open toe foot allows you to better see what you are doing and where you are going.

So whichever you prefer, if you govthat route. But if you learn to FMQ without it, super! ------ 🌸 Plenty of machines, mostly Berninas 🌸

Not sure if that would work, as it was a different brand foot that was modified, and you might end up with an edge that snags, but just throwing that idea out. ------ 🌸 Plenty of machines, mostly Berninas 🌸
