I know the 630 embroiders... I wonder if it comes with embroidery unless you opt out and get the machine only.
I have been pricing the 630... there are only 2 Bernina dealers in Vermont. One has lost their autherization to finance and offer machines beyond the 3 or 5 Series machines. That smaller dealer is very expensive... I don't see how they stay in business. My dealer is high volume and really the only full service dealership in the state. Their prices are much better but still sticker prices are high. I think they are willing to deal... I am not quite ready to get the 630/635 as I need to save more money and sell a few items.

So really my question is what should I expect to pay for machine only and how much more is embroidery. I have seen prices ranging from $3000 trade in with embroidery to 4400 with embroidery.

My dealer sells both with the embroidery modules. MSRP on the module (Dec. 2011) was $1049 and it is sold separately for $949. He sells the 635E for $4099 (CD embroidery designs collection included). The 630QE for $4599 and includes BSR, walking foot, USB stick and CD embroidery designs collection. I do not know what he would charge if you opted out of the embroidery module. I do know if you opt out of getting the BSR, you get only $400 knocked off the price. Not sure if this helps. I would say it is cheaper to get it with the module than to add it later.

Two years ago I purchased a floor model 630 with embroidery unit for $2,600 from an high volume dealer in MD near where we were living at the time. Designer 6 software was also purchased at 30 percent off.

Thanks SewBusy, I wonder if I waited to get the embroidery unit if it would be hard to get once they discontinue the 630. I have talked to my dealer a little but I do not want to give my cards away just yet. I want to know what I can roughly expect when negotiating a price. She pushes hard and I am afraid she may not be too flexible. But if I offer a decent price to get it all once that she might go for it and give me a good deal.

I do not have all my ducks lined up yet but I am working extra hours and a second job to be able to buy the machine outright. I will keep you posted as I get closer.

I hope you'll be able to get it for the price you want. Since you've bought from her before, I would think she would give you a good deal since you are a repeat customer.

Exactly. When I got the 240, it was priced to sell and she was very clear that she did not expect to have them for very long. When the 220/230/240 were discontiniued she purchased a good number of them to sell off a discounted rate. She still had a few machines left when I took a class at the Vermont Quilt Festival last year. I knew it would be my last chance to get the 240 so I took advantage of the sell off. Though at the time I did not have plans to buy a macine. DH was not too happy but I got him to come around. I am hoping if I time this correctly I could land a similar deal. A discontinued machine at deeply discounted rate. So I have to find out if she is planning to buy a bunch of the 630's again this summer. This time DH knows I am in the market and saving for it too.

I bought my 635 last year with embroidery and the bsr with ny state 8.50 tax for 5500. All the dealers around me seemed to be about the same, so I bought locally. As it turned out the one dealer who I did not go to had much better price on the 630. My friend bought a 630 from him and got it for mid 4000 with same, bsr and embroidery.
The machine alone was 3600. I would have bought the embroidery mod seperatly later but it would have cost about 200 more and I also saved on the BSR. HTH.

You can remind her that you referred customers to her :).

I think the 630 was around $3500 here without embroidery. Not certain.

Isn't the embroidery module the same for many Bernina models? So I think it'll be awhile before we have to worry about not being able to buy them. It's a little disappointing that in the 5 series, the 5.5mm machines aren't embroidery capable and the 580 can't be bought without the embroidery module in the US. I hope that's not the new standard. That option to add the embroidery module later is a Bernina advantage. Now Pfaff is offering the Creative Performance that way.

You've got a great plan going, hope you are enjoying a 630 soon, it's such a super all-around machine.

Are they planning to discontinue the 630 soon? I know there are rumors of a new 7 series machine coming out to replace the 730 but haven't heard about the 630.

Artsewer, thanks for the pricing on the 630... That will help me with negotiations. I think it also might depend on how she packages the machine... I'd think her profit margin would be larger if she separated the embroidery. But if I wound up with the whole enchilada, that means I would also have to get the software too and in order for me to do that I would have to get a new computer. SO I do not know if I am ready to take on all that on just yet. My computer is officially 10 years old this summer, Pentium 4, 2gb and Windows XP... Hey, it works and I can do email and post on PR. While it qualifies for minimum requirements for the software it would consume so much memory that I'd be better off with a new computer... But I do not need the software to do embroidery right?...

I keep repeating this phrase in my head... 'Use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without'.... I wonder which part of it applies to the Bernina?

Maia - That is a good point of leverage, isn't it!

Anyone else looking for a 630/635?
