Date: 5/14/12 6:15 AM I am confused by the instructions 7-10 (With right sides together, pin bodice front to bodice back at side seams placing upper edge of front at small dot on back. Baste. With right sides together pin back facing to baodice back (over bodice front) matching notches and small dots at sides. Stitch side and upper edge, leaving an opening between small and large dots on bodice back for views B, C, and E. Layer seam. Does anyone know if there is a tutorial out there for me to view the process? Or is there a way to see better pictures so that I can follow this? (Trying to help my daughter make this dress.) |

Date: 5/14/12 10:07 AM I've never made this dress, but someone who has might chime in. I'm trying to figure out what is meant by "placing the upper edge of the front at small dot on back". Not seeing the actual pattern pieces, I can't give you much help...sorry |

Date: 5/14/12 10:50 AM I haven't made this either, but is the front neckline finished before this step? In that case, the small dot will mark the seam allowance on the back, and the back's seam allowance should overhang the finished front.
That way, when you sew the back facing on, the finished edges of front and back will be on the same plane.
I can't help you with the opening btw small and large dots for views B, C, E. ------ http://theslapdashsewist.blogspot.com

Date: 5/15/12 0:24 AM I'll try this as I have the pattern. It is important to note that views B, C and E have straps while A and D are halter dresses. By step 7 the front is finished so in step 8 you are pinning an unfinished top edge (top of back) to a finished top edge (the front) The small dot will be 5/8" from the top edge of the back. You will pin the finished bodice top edge to be even with the actual seam line on the back. Now you will pin the back facing to the back across the top and down the side (look at picture 9). You can see that you will have to be careful not to sew the front into this seam. (that is the finished parts of the front. You will be sewing the side seams)
The instructions to not sew between the large and small dots leaves a gap for the strap on each side. Personally I would probably either attach the strap to the inside of the dress or put a button on the dress and several button holes on the strap since girls grow. Hope this helps. -- Edited on 5/15/12 0:27 AM -- |
