how do I sew this - top stitch- onto my skirt?

It is so narrow that I'm afraid that stitching two rows- top of ribbon & bottom- won't look good. I'm afraid the two rows of stitching will be too close together --?? Am I wrong in thinking this?

So do I get smaller needle for my Bernina 1031 machine to do this- if one exists?
Sewing it on by hand isn't really an option for me.

I don't think I can stitch it right down the center because then the ends of the ribbon will curl up--??

To be clear- the ribbon needs to be sewn on the right side of the skirt, a little above the hem line about an inch.

Cake mix, consider a tiny zigzag on each edge of the ribbon. The zigzag should not be tightly packed. My preference is to color match the thread to the ribbon.

If you don't have enough ribbon for some practice stitching, cut narrow scraps of fabric to practice with.

I generally preshrink all washable components before assembling, including zippers, store bought bindings, ribbons and other notions.

You can buy fusible strips, packaged on a roll, to adhere the ribbon to hold it in place while you stitch. (I cut my own strips out of Stitch Witchery yardage). There are also sticky on both sides wash away tapes.

that means to stitch OVER not through the ribbon. Here's an example of hand embroidery couching -

you can also do machine couching by setting a zig-zag wide enough to clear the ribbon and stitch it down that way.

another option might be to do one of the specialy stitches and sew the ribbon down that way - using either matching or contrasting thread. Or do a specialty stitch up each side of the ribbon catching the edges.

I did a slightly wider ribbon with a twin needle. I used wonder tape to hold it down.

I've done this with several items--my all time favorite silk pants, a tshirt and a jacket. I use soutache braid--very narrow braid, about 1/4" wide. And I use a large zigzag stitch over it. The points of the zigzag just barely touch the edge of the braid, and it looks great and lays flat. (this is another way to "couch")
