Not sure where to put this.
My nephew and his girlfriend are getting married! They are going to a justice of the peace near where he is stationed but will be having a party back home in a few weeks, possibly outside. Washington DC area, so the weather will probably be hot & humid.
So I want to make a dress. I'm thinking the one I made from Burda 7808 is maybe a little too casual, but I'm taking it along anyway.
I'm still learning to fit tops/dresses for my current shape (in RTW about a misses Large on top and Medium below). Looking for something bra-friendly, that would not be too hard to do a FBA on. Thinking of making it below the knee and wearing some nice flat sandals. Can this be done without total frumpiness?
Already have both some medium weight green linen (pre-shrunk!) and some cotton about the same weight in what looks to be an African inspired print. Any ideas for a good pattern? I could use Butterick 4386 or Simplicity ("It's So Easy") 3724 if nobody comes up with anything.
Thanks!

If you think you need to do an FBA, and you're below a DD cup, why don't you look at any of the dress patterns that have cup sizing? Simplicity do a whole lot of them (check their Amazing Fit range), as do Vogue and probably many others.

You don't say how much fabric you have. That might make a difference to the patterns you can use.

I've got four yards of the cotton, which is what I'm leaning towards using.
Are the shoulders, etc. the same as the regular patterns?

Oops. Correction, almost four yards of each, and the linen is about 55" wide.

What do you mean, are the shoulders the same?

I agree with Lareine. I have two Amazing Fit dress patterns in my stash: Simiplicity 1914 and Simplicity 2247. I haven't used either yet, so I can't give you an opinion on the fit.

Yes, the patterns I've used with the cup sizing allows the shoulders and most everything else, to remain the same. The only difference, they do the FBA for you. I would suggest looking for the finished measurements on the pattern and do a tissue fit before making the muslin. I have narrow shoulders and am short/high waisted, so I have to make those adjustments on everything I do.
