I'm working on Simplicity 2703 dress. I'm usually pretty good at this fitting thing but I'm not sure this one is doable.
I need to adjust the bust to an A cup. The pattern has a total of 3" of dart width (is that the right term?) spread out across the 2 neck pleats and 1 waist dart. I only have 1.5" of dart width total. Even if I close/eliminate the waist dart I still don't have enough for both neck pleats. I don't think having just one is a good look. Any suggestions?
Here's a pic of the pattern.

For patterns with neck pleats, I've ended up doing the SBA by shortening the bodice at the lower edge, as in Butterick 5382 (photo below). However, I've not done this with a pattern that also has lower darts.
2007: purchased 115+, sewed 105+
So close to parity, yet so far
Trying again in 2008
Yards purchased: 133
Yards sewn: Somewhere around 95
2009? I give up

I will be keeping the bodice length adjustment as a bust adjustment idea in my bag of tricks. I am also thinking that if your fabric isn't to stiff and with the belt at the waist you will be able to afford enough ease to get the neck line pleats.

I do SBA too but haven't done a neck dart. Here's an idea: close and transfer the neck darts to the side seam. Do a traditional SBA. Now move the side seam dart back to the neck. Split it into 2 darts (pleats). It's roundabout but should work.
