Date: 5/20/12 0:16 AM I'm making a shirt for my hubby and have enough interfacing for the collar and plackets if I could piece it, otherwise I'd have to take a trip to fabric store for more.
Is it okay to piece it or would there be too much bulk where I seamed it?

Date: 5/20/12 1:36 AM I piece interfacing a lot and it doesn't seem to make any difference. It probably depends a bit on the thickness of your fabric and the thickness of the interfacing. If it is a shirt collar and cuffs, are you using really thick stuff? If not go ahead and piece.
Edited to say that I use iron on IF, not sew in, which means I don't have to stitch it together. With sew in I wouldn't piece.

Date: 5/20/12 2:16 AM For fusible interfacing, I do piece together. I just overlap the pieces just a little to minimize any excess bulk. |

Date: 5/20/12 6:26 AM I piece interfacing all the time, even with shirting. With iron-on, just overlap the pieces and iron. With sew-in, overlap and run a line of basting stitches.

Date: 5/20/12 8:39 AM All the time. I live too far away to just jump in the car and drive to pick up some more, so I piece it--fusible or non-fusible. I've even used old muslin sheets as interfacing; it makes collars roll nicely. Just make sure if you're using the fusible it's the same thickness. Sometimes for the non-fusible I'll use some stitch witchery to attach it to my pieces and that holds it down nicely until I can stitch 1/2" seam allowance to hold it down. ------

I probably would not piece in a collar as its too noticeable, but elsewhere go for it! ------

Date: 5/20/12 1:20 PM I piece and I layer. I rarely use heavy interfacing so I'd rather build up layers when necessary (and appropriate to the task) than keep one more item in the home inventory. If I layer, I do it to the facing side. ------

Date: 5/21/12 4:56 AM Since I am using sew-in interfacing, I decided against piecing and went to Joann's yesterday for more. However, I opted for the medium-weight since what I had originally was a light-weight. The medium-weight will work better for the collar and plackets I think I had a friend with me who concurred on this.
