Here is a picture of my son with the pillow he made for himself. He picked out the fabric and LOVED making this pillow. It isn't perfect, but I think that is the best part of it!

That is awesome!! and his smile says it all. It is wonderful when we get to share our passion for something with those we love.

Better be careful, before you know it you will be fighting over who gets to use the sewing machine

WOW WOW WOW...great fabric...darling boy!!! You have been on my mind today. I was thinking about the class. Kids can be mean particularly when a child might be seen as doing something different. I remember back in 1958 I had a backpack for my books. Everyone else carried them in their arms...I was called a donkey and laughed at!!!!!! Now look ...every child has a back pack. The skills he is developing cannot be duplicated in any other activity that I can think of. If one kid makes fun of a "boy sewing" he might get turned off. You need to bolster him up to take the "hits". Create a biography of all the great men designers and how much money they make...something to make him bullet proof...and make him KNOW what he is doing is fabulous!!!

This is so very sweet, great job cutie pie!!

I'm trying to teach my three year old son as well--he mans the foot pedal as I feed the fabric...and pray you should see the "monster mermaid" he demanded we venture right before bed last night! Such deformity! But I'm so happy he's taking an interest in sewing, what a pleasure to see a little boy beg to use the sewing machine.

Nice going Mama, keep posting his progress!

Lol! No, that won't happen since he has his own machine! He also has his own basket of fabric and a plastic shoe box that.holds his thread, scissors and pins!

That said, his machine is a 16 year old mechanical Viking with 7 stitches. No frills at all and a.sturdy little machine. He loves it but has already commented on how he wishes his needle would go up on it's own. Lol!

Look at the grin on that boy's face! It's priceless. How great he must feel. Great job, I'd say. My first pillow looked much worse!

You son looks so proud! He did a good job on his first big project!
Just as a side note-years ago I was teaching 3rd grade. I can't remember the occasion but I let my class bring in a favorite toy. One of my "tough" boys brought in a stuffed animal. I was shocked and thought that he was in for alot of teasing. However, the next day every boy in the class brought in a stuffed animal of their own. So you never know. When his friends find out he can make cool stuff, they all may want to learn!

What a sweet boy and a super looking pillow I got a little lump in my throat when I read this...reminded me of when my boys were small and I taught them to sew.

Have fun teaching your boy to sew! Mine loves it! I think it is such a useful skill to have! Boys can enjoy this too!
