This is my first attempt at dressmaking (aside from the super-easy infinity dress). It took a couple of weeks, mostly because once I had all the bias tape, clasps, etc. sewn on the first time, my husband noticed some major issues with the fit.

I have narrow shoulders, so we really struggled with getting the shoulders of the dress to fit properly. The waist was also a little too big on the first attempt, so we essentially had to tear the dress apart and start all over. My swayback really doesn't help, either (there was a lot of bunching at the back waist the first time around, but most of it has been eliminated). Hubby gets major props for helping me with the fitting process! He also did the hem, just for funsies.

Please forgive the crinoline peeking out--it hasn't been fitted properly at the waist yet and kept slipping down while I was posing. :P

All in all, I think it's very nice for a first attempt, and I love the color--it reminds me of blue saltwater taffy! I'm glad I didn't give up on this, even though it caused a lot of headaches along the way.

Your dress looks very nice, both in fit and in color. Good job!

It's very pretty on you; nice fit and, yes, a really pretty color.
This could be just a beginning for you.

Thanks, all.I really love it, though the amount of fabric required means it's not exactly cheap to make. I'd love to make another one with fabric scavenged from a thrift store.

You did a good job on a pattern that is notoriously more difficult than it looks. Getting the fit right with this one is a problem for most people!

It was the first dress I ever made too. I used the sewalong here. Its got some great tips on the fitting.
I still haven't sewn the closures on...apart from that its finished.

Fantastic job on the dress. It has a reputation as hard to fit. I put mine aside in frustration.

LDT2011 - thanks for the sewalong link. I am going to read through it for inspiration
