Date: 5/23/12 2:08 PM I'm diving in and buying some gorgeous (and expensive!) cotton lace to make a simple shell top--inspired by the Mad Men collection from Banana Republic.
But I can't decide what I should use to line it. I want a matte finish fabric in the same color (white.) I thought of using silk, but I wasn't sure what would be best--charmeuse? habotai? And then I got to thinking that since the lace was cotton, maybe a nice cotton lawn or batiste would be better.
What say you all? I'm not used to such fancy-pants sewing! |

Particularly as the fabric is white, I'd want the option of an oxyclean soak for pit stains (apologies if you don't get them!). I've never tried silk in oxyclean, though it might work. ------ http://theslapdashsewist.blogspot.com

Date: 5/23/12 8:45 PM I'm with nicegirl, but I'd like to add try cotton batiste. It's light enough to move with the lace, comes in white and is a matte finish.
Back in the 1970's when cotton lace was popular as tank tops (oh my, here I go again, reaching into my dinosaur brain...) they were lined with either batiste or a very thin cotton knit. ------ "We don't impose our rhythm on Nature. Date: 5/23/12 11:15 PM You guys are confirming my own instincts. I was thinking that matching the fabrics would make laundering easier, and I'm such a clutz that stains will be inevitable. I also think it will be cooler, a major consideration in Texas.
Thanks for the input, folks! |
