Date: 5/24/12 1:57 PM I liked the way the machine felt - to be honest it felt lots like the old Viking 150 I loved so much.
I bought a few extra feet ( 2 FMQ feet ) ..
For a few hours after I got home with the machine, I felt like I had spent too much and listed it for sale here... then, I quilted a quilt and decided to keep it.
The things on the machine just worked the way I thought they should and worked the same every time.
Anyhow - I liked it, it felt good to sit down and not have stress brought on by the machine.

Date: 5/24/12 2:19 PM That is the only thing I did not like about my 635. I was used to 7mm wide on my Janomes. I prefer the decorative stitches in 9mm. What a difference! -- Edited on 5/24/12 2:19 PM -- ------ ~Diana~

Date: 5/24/12 2:24 PM I sorta was shocked with myself thsat I bought it - I went to the shop because of a 50% off sale and really bought it on a whim.... I say whim... but, truth is Ive wanted to get rid of the Smarter by Pfaff ... it does some things great but, moody and inconsistant.
Soooo - when I saw this I thought -- "Get rid of that Pfaff, and try this!" ... then when I got home I felt guilty.
I have a hard time making choices. I could keep all three of the machines I have but, really ..? Three machines set up in a condo that is smaller than most peoples sewing room?! LOL
I listed the Pfaff on local craigs list .. I dont care if it sells or not ... but, if it does - fine.
Ill keep the SS machine.
Some people are so sure of what they are doing .. Im totally not.

Date: 5/24/12 2:25 PM That's why so many of us have both 5.5mm and 9mm machines, plus straight-stitchers.
At a good price, you can keep it if you love it, sell it if you don't. Sounds like a good purchase.

Date: 5/24/12 2:35 PM The feet ARE nice - I hate using screw drivers, my fingers are thick and basically useless, so having snap on/off is really good for me.
And a snap off/on plate! Love - just like the old 150!
The bobbin on the Pfaff Smarter rotates a full circle, the 530 seems to occilate. From side to side.
What is the feeling on using the thread pigtail on the bobbin for sewing .. when do people use it?

Date: 5/24/12 2:36 PM Think of it like a student who changes majors, adding a year or more and thousands to their education expenses, but ends up more productive and fulfilled in their work.
You are an artist, the tools can be expensive, and sometimes it takes a period of ownership, more than even the most thorough test-drive, to figure out what you really need/want in your tools.
I don't have the space limitations you do, but I've got a few machines that need to be rehomed. Misjudged my needs. The QP lives at mom's, but if she ever doesn't want it, I'll make room. ------ 🌸 Plenty of machines, mostly Berninas 🌸 |
