Trying to find the name of a particular fabric
ZugZug Beginner TX USA Member since 1/4/12 Posts: 36	Login to reply to this post Like this post Date: 5/27/12 1:19 AM My MIL asked me to see if I could find out what kind of fabric the below pictured (well linked) is. She and her MIL used to do a joint effort to make receiving blankets and burp cloths out of them. Her MIL would do the sewing and then my MIL would crochet a border around the edges. My MIL is interested in making an agreement with me to do such things since I am the only one in the family that sews (her MIL passed away approx 10 years ago). Can you help me out? I found something in Joann's that at first glance appears to be the same but the feel of the fabric and the slight upraised pattern weave is slightly different. If its any help she said her MIL used to purchase the fabric at Wal-Mart about 15 year ago...I just need some kind of name for it so I can locate some.. Thanks in advance! Date: 5/27/12 7:10 AM I've seen this sort of texture in both plissé (which has the texture formed by treating with caustic soda) and seersucker (which has the texture woven in -- generally more durable). The width of the crinkles and flat areas can vary a lot for both of these, and fiber content would make a difference in how they feel too.

It's typically used for diapers and receiving blankets. There are apparently lots of different weights of it, and probably the quality varies a lot. It doesn't look quite the same (it's generally got a sort of diamond pattern), but it might fill the same function. -- Edited on 5/27/12 12:17 PM -- ------ Debbie

The only issue you might have is that it's quite narrow (22" before washing, IIRC). ------ ~Gem in the prairie
