I have recently completed a pair of pants and a pair of shorts. The pants pattern is Simplicity 2700 and the shorts pattern is McCalls 5391. The right handed pocket on each pair seems to stick out or bulge. The pants are not tight, so I can't figure out what the issue is. Any ideas?

Not sure if I know how to post a picture. When I go home maybe I can figure it out. Thanks!

Yes a pic would be great. Since it's only the right and it's two different patterns, my guess is that it's either how you're sewing your right pocket somehow or you're shaped differently. I'm definitely flatter on one hip and curvier on the other. Something to look at while you're figuring out the pic thing.

I was thinking that I must be "crooked" for lack of a better word. If this is the case what kind of adjustment should I make?

Your waist may be lower on the right side and this is dropping the pant down and causing the pocket to bulge.

Take a temporary tuck at right side of the waist to see if this will keep the pocket opening smooth as the left side.

I have been sewing for years and only a couple of years ago realized I was crooked. Maybe that came with time. Get someone to take pics of you in a favorite outfit from the back as you stand comfortably straight. That will let you know for sure.

Maybe you have a high hip on that side, with a little more fluff. I can't remember the solution--Make the pocket edge longer? Raise the pocket closer to the hip? Or lower it? Or a combination? But I'll check my books because I know something is in there.

I know this problem all too well; my right side is more turned toward toward the front than the left. I have to raise my pocket on that side, but I'm not sure what your solution is; I'm going with a more common problem than mine.

You have some great suggestions here. I love how sewing makes us more aware that nobody has a perfect body, ourselves included, and nobody is perfectly symmetrical either. There is all kinds of weird stuff going on! The best we can aspire to as seamstresses is to create garments that perfectly hide our imperfections

I think that "fluff" is most likely the problem. I recently gained weight and that is why I decided to make some new bottoms. Losing weight is probably the solution, but in the meantime I need clothes!
