I've been looking online for lightweight wicking knits to use as linings for the skirt portions of my knit summer dresses. The super-comfy rayon knits I'm using for dresses are too light to wear without a lining or slip on the bottom, and I've been looking for the coolest lining option. I may also make myself a wicking summer slip.

Found this site, O.B.B. Diapers (they've been making sustainable diapers), that is apparently going out of business and selling off their stock of wicking fabrics for $5.75/yard.

The page linked to above shows color swatches; this page is the one where you can see what's still available and place an order. (Use the drop-down menu to see how much is left of which colors -- ten colors still left at this writing, in very limited amounts.) My monitor shows the colors as slightly lighter than they arrived, so keep that in mind as a possibility if they look quite light on yours. I haven't done a burn test, but from the feel these are synthetics, as 'wicking fabrics' generally are. Soft and lightweight, opaque, with good drape.

I ordered 2 yards of Llama Brown and 2 of Cyclone, and paid $5 shipping. (The Cyclone has about 50% stretch across the grain, the Llama Brown about 30%; both about 64 inches wide.) Paid via PayPal and got tracked shipping via USPS. Trista responded quickly to my questions via email, and cut generously.

NAYY -- just wanted to pass on this deal to others, now that I have mine!

I had emailed Trista thanking her for my order and letting her know I was going to post about her fabric. She wrote back to tell me that the inventory shown on her order page isn't necessarily accurate -- she's got some colors not listed. So if you see something you want that appears to be out of stock, email her, because she may have it.

I am not used to thinking about stretch in % - is it stretchy enough for underwear?

I would say that the Cyclone pique (a light blue-grey) I got is stretchy enough for underwear, at 50% stretch, but I'm not sure about the other, which was not described as pique -- the brown -- with only 30%. There's just a small bit of stretch lengthwise in each, so if you need 4-way stretch for your underwear this probably won't work.

Many of the colors are labeled pique. Trista could tell you if these all have the same stretch properties. Mine is soft and smooth against the skin.

The fabric has a drier hand than I usually think of for underwear fabrics, but of course cotton jersey, which many panties are made of, has a dry hand, too.

I'm thinking of making a 1/2 slip with some of the stretchier one, with one of those flip-over elastic waists (no casing), for a wicking summer slip that I can wear with unlined skirts and dresses when it's hot and humid. My regular tricot 1/2 slips are torture when it's over 90. I think there's enough stretch that I can get a smooth line at the waist when it's on (no elastic-waist puckers to show through).

What about swim suit lining? Igot some that is sort of fuzzy, 4 way stretch and is super comfy and cool as a t-shirt lining.

What's the fiber content, do you know? (I've always found regular swimsuit linings to be hot.)

marjoriekh- thank you for this post. I quickly made an order - though I wish I'd read on about making halfslips - i ordered enough for 6 dresses that surely wil be made!

Try The Rain Shed. They specialize in outdoor performance fabrics, rainwear, etc. and have a selection of Wicking Fabrics in several weights. Some are suggested for underwear. Their colors relate to active and camping gear- light grey, blue, a chili red, etc. Their fabrics are interesting and they give you a lot of info about them. They have a very good swatching service.
