These are pictures of how his wall hanging is coming along. He likes it very much. See all the Boxes the colors make? Those I did not expect to see and I like it very much.

How do you all like it so far?

I am not sure of something and I want to know before I sew it together. When doing a tri-color design, how do you press the seams? I know to the side on the back, but how? I have one pressed to the brown and the other to the gold. I might have the pressing done wrong and need to redo it, so now is the time to help me decide what to do. I do not have them pressed both to the brown and I wonder if it matters or not on this.

I'll take some more pictures of the 3 strip and post if they come out. The last 2 attemps were too out of focus to show anything.

Oh how wonderful! I can see why your hubby likes it so much. I do too! Those boxes are a pleasant surprise and really adds to the design. It keeps the eye moving around the quilt. The rail blocks alternated with the square adds a fun yet simple dimension.

On pressing for this quilt I would press the rail blocks to the dark fabric. Just make sure that as you build rows of blocks have the seams pressed in alternating directions so they mesh when sewing the completed rows together. does that make sense?

Yes. You told me to press the seams toward the middle color which is brown and not both going just one way. This is fixable at this stage. I must write this down so I do not forget. I only have 60 blocks to press correctly. Better to do it right, than wrong.
Yes, I remember to press the row seams one way for the first row and then the other for the second row.

The Quilters Accademy, Freshman Year is where I got the pattern. The book tells me to sew the rows together by sewing the rows vertically and not horizontally. I have them grouped together in rows and pinned with a small note to tell me which row is which.

So, should I sew them in rows vertically or horizontally? Does it matter? I think this is done for speed sewing, but I am not sure.

I don't think it makes any difference but I imagine there is a reason explained in the book.

I'm so focused on your perfect looking straight edges and right angles that it is hard for me to see anything else! You're doing a great job.

Extremely nice, Learn. I especially like the way the pattern in the brown seems to lead to the next piece.
