Date: 6/15/12 1:25 PM Hello all I have a small 5lb dog who is a little piddler. He piddles sometimes if hes nervous, scared, excited etc. Its not peeing just dribbling so I decided to make some belly bands for him . I have tried a couple ideas one is okay but its sooo wide on him I don't care for it much.
But it seems to work the best cause it tends to bunch up underneath on his belly area where you really need it so widers better. And if not wider they tend to spin on him and not stay in the right place and what you are covering is not always totally covered.
Sooooo I was just curious IF any of you guys have sewn any of these and have a good pattern that works on small dogs OR you know of a good pattern so that I can look for some new ideas and maybe be able to perfect one for him.
They are not complicated to sew by any means but they don't always do what you expect. So hoping to make the perfect one for him that will be comfortable , stylish and functional.
In case you don't know what I am talking about they are just a strip of material sewn with velcro or snaps to wrap around the dogs middle area. Not hard or rocket science at all.
I'd like to figure out a way to get them less wide esp on top but still be functional. Not sure if its possible to do what I'd like but thought I'd see if any of you guys had any ideas or suggestions.

 2 members like this. My friend bought some of these for her little piddler. They work great. Could you pick one up at the store that fits your dog well and then just copy it? |

Date: 6/16/12 9:32 PM I foster dogs for a rescue group and I make a LOT of belly bands and female dog panties. I have used and modified this pattern with good success.

I've had small male dogs who dislodge or spin the belly bands, and for them I make the female style but increase the band width to cover the penis. I use a small maxi pad in them and it works great.

Date: 6/17/12 12:30 PM I have made many of these also. I use lightweight fleece, two layers straight stitched together and then pinked edges just because. Close ends with a 2 " piece of velcro. Nice and lightweight and mini pads stick okay. |

Date: 6/17/12 9:01 PM I agree with bbj91942, fleece works great and I also use it a lot. One thing I have learned is to make sure the grain of the fleece goes around the dog's belly. If cut on the cross-grain the fleece stretches out very quickly and can fall off.

Date: 3/27/13 11:11 AM Late replying to this but in case it helps anyone else, if you have trouble with them stretching out or slipping around, add some elastic in the part that goes up the side or over the back to keep it taut. ------
