I received an Amazon newsletter and this book caught my eye:

Sounds interesting but I wish I could get an idea of what is inside. Anybody have info?

Funnily enough I have just got home from looking at this book in a bookshop. I didn't buy it as I didn't like how the new versions often didn't have the style and pizazz of the originals. There were 10 patterns: Marilyn Monroe's white dress, Julia Roberts's brown polka-dot dress, Keira Knightley's green evening dress from 'Atonement', Kate Winslet's red and black ball dress from Titanic', Audrey Hepburn's LBD (from 'Breakfast at Tiffany's', I think), Grace Kelly's blue draped balldress (I forget the movie; the 'copy' dress wasn't a patch on the original, which was very well fitted and not at all frou-frou), Rita Hayworth's slinky black long dress (ditto Grace Kelly comment)... I have forgotten the other three. The styles looked as though they had been dumbed down, though of course they did look reasonably easy to make. I didn't look at the pattern sizing, sorry. I might add that the book was on sale (A$10.99, I think), so perhaps it hasn't been popular, at least not here in Canberra.

I would agree with Annie p. it's a good idea but I found the execution to be kind of lacking. The actual sewing instruction was rather vague. I found the best part to be the explanations of the construction of the original dresses.

I just remembered, there's only one size pattern with a mention of "grading it up". Now I realize it wouldn't be easy to include a comprehensive grading lesson but I'm not sure how this would work for a beginner.

I'm sorry I have to say it, but this bookt is just plain bad...

I do not understand how an author dares to show pictures like this of a finished garment in a sewing book

And I am sorry to say the level of execution in the whole book does not get any better . I was stupid enough to buy this book at amazon just because I love sewing books, but this one is so bad I feel insulted.

The Foxling reviewed the book and posted pictures if you want to look inside.

I looked at it when I was at Costco, the idea of the book is really fun, but there seemed like something was missing.
