 1 member likes this. I'm new to quilting but I am really enjoying it. One area I need to improve on is my quilting. How do y'all mark your quilting pattern onto your fabric? |

If I want to spend a lot of time marking, as in the quilt is small, I'll use a mechanical pencil with different colored chalk and a template. If I am making a large item, I'll use Pounce, which looks like a chalkboard eraser with chalk in it, and a template. ------

2 members like this. My mom uses waxed paper and traces over it using one of those pointy tracing wheels. Then she smears a handful of flour over the paper to get into the holes. Then there is a dotted line to follow that washes out. |

1 member likes this. I mark my quilts with a green Paper Mate Flair brand felt tip pen. It washes out easily, and is easy to see on everything except the darkest colors.

Date: 6/21/12 7:01 AM I read the washable crayola markers could be used so i tried it last time and loved it! i use the templates to mark but i really like the markers. i hope i don't one day get a surprise if one doesn't wash out. |

Date: 6/21/12 10:23 AM I use the original Pounce pads because its easy to brush the chalk off. The new pads also iron off. The blue chalk I’m not crazy about. I really like their templates, especially the Sashiko stencil designs.

I have used regular chalk for garment making and it works great, but when I tried it on my quilt, manipulating all that much material around made the chalk wipe off so I couldn't see it. ------

Date: 6/21/12 12:08 PM The original Pounce chalk I bought at my local quilt shop and it would sometimes get displaced when quilting. The new powder, I bought at the Pounce booth at the quilt show and haven’t had any problems with it moving around. It just ironed off. A twin quilt is the largest thing I’ve had to manipulate.
