Date: 6/24/12 10:43 PM And I made it probably 9 times between in 7th grade. I loved this pattern so much I couldn't stand it. When I ran across a vintage pattern collection, I began to look for it, and it took me a week to find it. Once I did, though, I realized that if I would have thought about it, I would have even remembered the number to it. I will buy this pattern again if I can find it remotely in my size.
Let's see everyone's patterns, whether it was from when you sewed "before" or you just bought your first seam ripper!

Edit: Tanitisis, I KNOW you have this pattern. I am dying to see you make it up. -- Edited on 6/24/12 11:00 PM -- |

1 member likes this. Date: 6/24/12 11:17 PM That's adorable! I don't know the brand or number of the first pattern I ever used (a long prairie skirt in 8th grade home ec)... but I do still have a couple of my very next projects from that same era. I'll have to see if I can root them up!
The first pattern I used once I got back to/started sewing seriously, about 8 years ago now, was Simplicity 7756:

Date: 6/24/12 11:40 PM Oh my. I remember that pattern! That was a favorite of mine too (way back when). I made a bunch of those shirts-they fit then. I don't remember what the first pattern was that I used. I do remember that we sewed a peasant style shirt and an elastic skirt in 7th grade home ec. All elastic and easy to sew. It will be fun to see what other people remember! |

Date: 6/25/12 0:05 AM McCall's 9398, circa 1968 -- I'm almost sure this is it. I'm pretty sure I made the A-line skirt, in purple. I seem to recall I wore it for ages, until it died.

I made a sleeveless flowered button-front blouse at the same time (little purple flowers... am I dating myself?), but I have no idea what pattern it was. The word "sleeveless" makes me wistful, lol.

Date: 6/25/12 5:39 AM We made nightgowns in home ec. I remember making M2922 in a red and white striped flannel--totally hideous! |

Date: 6/25/12 9:50 AM I'd guess it was a Simplicity pattern? A wrap-around cotton skirt with a red/black bandana print. Mom saw I was serious about sewing & decided a wkend visit to Grma. might be a good idea for my next project! Grma. enjoyed sewing. Mom, not so much. |

Date: 6/25/12 10:20 AM The first outfit I remember making was when I was about 14 or so. A V-neck top with short dolman sleeves and a pair of matching pants. Probably looked like of set of scrubs, but I loved that outfit!
I thought it was pretty funny a couple a months ago when I was searching through a bunch of vintage patterns and found the gi pattern with the sunset and bonsai from the Karate Kid movies. I loved that movie when I was a teenager and I also had that pattern. I spent months embroidering that sun-and-bonsai on the back off my favorite black poplin jacket. I wonder what happened to that jacket... ------ Trinity

Date: 6/25/12 3:19 PM I made a white sailor dress and my mom fashioned a red tie to go with it. I would love to stumble across the pattern someday.
