Does anyone know where I can find the pattern for this? It was entered in the Oregon State Fair and I've even written to them and not had any luck.
It's such a beautiful dress and I love big projects like that.
Thanks to anyone that can help.

Alice

I suspect that this is the craftswoman's original, one-of-a-kind design and that she might be reluctant to share it, but it's a pity she didn't put more images of this gorgeous creation on the net.

On magnifying your pictures as far as I can with my iPad, I think the dress might perhaps be an unusual mix of crochet and knit. The upper part of the train is almost certainly crocheted, and probably the hem. However, the majority of the skirt, and the sleeve caps look like a bit like knitting to me: Specifically, the base or core of the pineapple designs appear to consist of knitted garter stitch, but it sure would be nice to see it in real close-up.

Now, knitted pineapple patterns are extremely rare, but they do exist.

Here is one source, and here is another.

The stitch pattern for the bodice resembles this one, a Vogue knitting pattern which you can buy.

Your photo seems to be on this site, too, but I don't know if there's helpful information there.

There might be some useful patterns at this vintage pattern website.

This page of images of crocheted gowns is filled with inspiration, many of which have helpful links.

It looks like a lovely adventure for you.

Elona,
Thank you so much for the info. When I try to zoom in it just gets too blurry and no detail. I, too, think it's probably her original design. It was entered in the Oregon State Fair and I've even written to them asking if they knew whom it belonged to and I haven't heard back..sounds like a dead end there. I've done so many searches and have other people looking for it as well.
I'm not much of a knitter, especially for something complicated but I am an expert crocheter and I can probably convert. I wish I was one of those people that can create my own patterns.

Was browsing ebay and found this store for crocheted dresses - http://stores.ebay.ca/UkrainianBookStore?_trksid=p4340.l2563

UkrainianBookStore

The patterns are in russian. Pure eye candy. As a beginner crocheter, I can only drool and wish.

The pineapple skirt looks crocheted to me, but I can't get enough clear detail to be sure. I only say that because as long as it would take to crochet that skirt, it would take MUCH, MUCH longer to knit it! I can't imagine it being knitted - but I could be wrong.

A very talented Polish crocheter here has several creations with elements so similar to what you are looking for that it bears looking into, I think. The designer might be willing to supply you a pattern for a fee.

There's a link for contacting her here.

Hi. This site has many pineapple crochet patterns for free:
momsloveofcrochet.com/PineapplePatternPage.html

Maybe you could crochet a big blanket-like thing [like one just of pineapples and another just of butterflies] and then use that as you would use fabric for a sewing pattern?
