Date: 6/28/12 2:37 PM I have not used Sigma thread by Metro, but I have used their regular polyester thread and ordered the whole 166 spool set. It's a terrific value and I have had no problems whatsoever with that thread in my machine and I love it! Very nice sheen to it and stitches out beautifully.
To be honest, I don't even know what makes the Sigma thread any different from the other polyester thread they make, but maybe someone can weigh in on that. I, too, am a bit new to the embroidery thing....but there is a wealth of information out there and the folks on this forum are the best! ------

Date: 7/4/12 2:01 PM Bumping to see if there is anyone else with something to add. I've been wondering the same thing. I'm also using the Metro regular thread, but ordered the spools of the Sigma. I haven't been able to tell the difference so far.
I wondered if there were color differences, or maybe strength differences? Still a great price, but I don't want to spend more $$ on something that I already have or don't really need. I suppose a color chart would be helpful to me, but I still haven't figured out whether the thread is any different!
FYI...they are having a sale for the next few days... 10% off a $20+ purchase (I think until July 7). ------

Date: 8/1/12 9:12 PM I ordered some variagated thread from Metro and my Janome is not liking it. The rayon thread keeps splitting and I have to rethread and it frays on the end. I am hoping I will have better lucky with it on another machine. ------

Date: 8/20/12 1:52 PM Anyone else tried the Sigma thread? My machine likes the regular Metro thread, but I've only tried a few spools of the Sigma and they seem fine. The stitches come out nice and filled, though I do get an occasional loopy on wide satin stitches, but no more than any other thread I've tried.. I have better stitchouts using the regular Metro also as bobbin thread, which makes me happy since bobbin thread is $$$ and now I can just match top and bottom threads w/o problem (though I mostly just wind white and black unless it shows).
All the Sigma threads are now 75c/spool on sale until tomorrow. NAYY, just a happy customer.
Just wondering if anyone else has good/bad experiences. I'm considering getting a set of the Sigma just to get some more colors. Never can have enough and I read somewhere that although some are the same as the Metro, there are different ones. I wish I had ordered a color chart a while ago!!! ------

Date: 10/21/12 10:21 AM I'm wondering about this as well. How is Metro different from Sigma. I'm considering ordering the 66 spool set along with the cabinet. I'd hate to order all that thread if my machine had issues with it.
I see that the Sigma is 40 wt. 2 ply poly but don't see what the content is for the Metro.
Anyone out there know?
Also has anyone used this thread on a Bernina?

Date: 10/22/12 11:58 AM I have now bought both the Sigma and Metro threads. I can't really tell the difference. They both stitch out nicely on my Janome 350e. I had some shredding of the Metro for a short time, but then discovered a burr plus my machine was a little out of alignment. I've had the machine fixed and only had it for 2 weeks, but haven't had any problems since. The Sigma may be a tad stronger than the Metro, but I had only tested a few spools and it didn't shred as easily when rubbing on the burr.
The colors are slightly different between the sets, but the sheen is similar. The Metro appears slightly shinier on the spool, but I can't tell the difference when stitched out. The Sigma spools are a little taller than the Metro spools, so make sure they will fit in the cabinet. I just keep mine in a plastic storage cart from Target (4 small drawers, plus a large drawer at bottom). Both spool sizes fit nicely. I have another smaller 3 drawer desktop storage that the Metro fits in, but the Sigma is too tall.
I use the Metro as my bobbin thread too. My machine does NOT like the Metro bobbins, but I wind my own bobbins from the regular Metro spools! It works wonderfully as both a top and bobbin thread. I did a test and posted here on PR under "Bobbin thread?" in Machine embroidery with some pictures. I just bumped the topic for you.
Hope this helps! No one else has chimed in, but most of the reviews or comments I found were positive, with only a few negatives. When I did a side by side comparison of the stitchouts with more expensive threads, the Metro looked nicer, but bobbin thread played a big part too.
I'm happy with it and would buy it again. I'll be set on thread for along while though! If I need more colors, I'll have to finish off my last 50 spools of the larger Sigma since only 100/150 colors come in the Sigma minicone set. I did buy the color chart and that is nice for comparison to the RobisonAnton and Madeira.

The header at the top of the Sigma page, says "Excellent for High Speed Machines".
Maybe there is a coating to help with friction or something of that nature...this is all speculation..
