Is anyone on PR working their way through the Pattern Magic books? I got the first 2 books recently and hope to begin trying some of the patterns out.

As well as that, Has anyone tried any of the pattern cutting from Shingo SatoTR Pattern Cutting?

I have 3 more weeks of teaching, then a holiday and a textile art deadline. Then I want to work my way through some of the ideas. Once I get my head round it better, I'd like to try some of my own twists...but that is getting ahead of my self.

But, if there is a blog where someone is already working through them, that would be a great help!

I have made a few things from PM books, and the last two t shirts I drafted use one of the techniques, but are not exactly the same. Thanks for the link to the other site.

Last year, I spent a couple of hours "mentally drafting and sewing" a few patterns from the first Pattern Magic book. That was enough to give me what I wanted from the book -- a better understanding of how three dimensional effects are created in two dimensions .

I took Shingo-san's workshop in Chicago. It's not hard, per we, but it definitely helped me to talk to him in person to understand what was
as going on.

The Center for Pattern Design has a book which is great at showing the details of some of Shingo-san's designs. Transformational Reconstruction book

That sounds like it must have been great to be in the TR workshop.
I am thinking about getting the book, but it is somewhat dear in price.
Sorry I didn't get back straight away. My MIL had a fall and we had to go up to York for a few days.

I won't be able to start on these til September. But I am looking forward to it. It might be more incentive if there was someone willing to have a go at the same time. Maybe nearer the time I will post something in the Sew-Along section.

i just dove in on these books myself and started playing with some of the drafting instructions. can anyone recommend any particularly good blogs, sewists or other sites where one can read up or even follow along? i made it about 3/4 through one of the designs before i got completely stumped, and i know i can make it with a little guidance!

thanks for this. I left it for a while, but might get back to the idea after the summer when I have met a few other textile art deadlines.
