I couldn't find the right area to ask this, so I stuck it in Miscellaneous A local shop here in Richmond is offering a Nice Fit pants fitting class hosted by Judy Kessinger. I'm not familiar with her or her techniques. I've been looking for the answer for my crotch curve issues and wondering if I should take this class. I have concerns...I got suckered into a Pants class once before(at this same shop) and it was awful. I knew more about fitting than the "instructor". Judy's class is from 2:00-4:00. I teach sewing at Joanns and can't figure out how she is going to teach a room full(we hope) of women how to fit pants in two hours.

Has anyone ever taken this class? I read a small blurb that was posted on PR about 3 years ago, concerning Judy. I want to hear from anyone who has taken her pants fitting class. I'm not a sewing newbie. I can make a pair of pants that are tolerable. I want to have someone evaluate my shape and tell me where the actual adjustments need to be done...example: Crotch points, center back seam, twisted leg. I'm weary of trying all these things and getting just a so-so pair of pants.

Sorry I never heard of her. I'm sure some one will come along and have an answer for you.

Is there anyway the store will pass on questions you have for her prior to the class? I found her email off the FitNice site: judykess@insightbb.com, you could send her a note to introduce yourself.

judy

Hope this helps. I did not have time to read much of it.

I remember the last class and how disappointed you were in the teacher.

I really enjoy quilting. I love to play with fabrics, colors and pictures. I recently discovered how much fun applique can be. As I love making pictures, landscape quilting can be challenging, but seeing the picture come to life is so rewarding.

Jan,

Two hours for five or six people. There is no way I am signing up for another round like that. I just don't think it is possible to get much out of a class like that. I may be wrong, but I can't help but think it isn't possible, especially since there will be complete beginners there just like in our last class.

Hey Chris, I just left you an e-mail. I was also concerned about how much could be accomplished in two hours. After having taught sewing, I have a hard time seeing all this happening in two hours, with multiple skill and comprehension levels in the room. The lady who signed me up said it would "probably" be more experienced people coming to the class and that she has had people from as far as Va. Beach calling in about this class.

She said there is no sewing involved...it's all about measuring and fitting. I hope it's not one of those "A-B-C, draw a line connecting everything", kind of classes. I'm looking for fitting, not drafting. The price is not off the scale(cheaper than the other class that was a complete waste of time), so I went ahead and signed up. I'll report back after the class, and let everyone know how it went

Ming that's a great idea...I might just send her a "welcome" note and tell her how much I'm looking forward to this.

I agree with writing Judy ahead of time and telling her your issues and past experiences and see what she has to say. Maybe she would do a 1-on-1 type with you for an additional fee or something. It does not hurt to ask her ahead of time.

If you have 6 women of various body sizes who are experienced in sewing and fitting and just looking to Fine Tune a pattern, the class should go well in those 2 hours. A bit tight, but still ok. Now, if you get beginners or ladies who do not know what Fit is at all, forget it, they will take the entire time for just 1 of them.

Did the owner tell you this is a class for experienced fitting or just a class with Judy in it? I know she said she expected more experienced sewing/fitting skills and hopefully this is what you will get.

When is this class?

I have experience with her and brought her into our area to do classes for our ASG chapter after having attended a couple of her one hour presentations at a local conference. She has quite a following with people who sew knits and most of her sewing is more fast and easy ideas, elastic waist, cut on sleeves, one pattern, many looks, unfinished edges, etc. She does not offer technical advice and I the "adjust your crotch curve" kind of detail is not what you would get from her. She is a fun presenter and very entertaining and gives newbies a finished product that they can wear with confidence. It was very successful in our area and caters more to those who are beginners. She does a great job at that, but it is not my personal preference because I want and need more "how" and "why", not just her cutting the partially made garment up in front of you to show you the needed alteration. I did not take the classes from her but many of my friends did and I got reports back and saw finished garments. Hope this helps.

Rose, thank you...now I'm beginning to wonder if I jumped the gun. I did ask if this was an actual "fitting" class and was told that it was. I appreciate your response

Ming I followed your advice and sent Judy a letter. Within minutes she replied to me. I'm even more excited about this class. Even if it's not "the" perfect fitting class for me, I'm sure I'll walk away with something learned.
