Date: 7/8/12 1:05 PM Does anyone have any information or ideas about the quality of the Viking Ruby? It is an embroidery and sewing machines. A couple of reviews on PR are glowing, but I'd like to know from someone who uses it. There is one in the PR classifieds that is a good price (I believe) and I am contemplating it, but I am clueless about machine embroidery. ------ Sewing: A creative mess is better than tidy idleness. ~Author Unknown

Date: 7/8/12 3:07 PM Sharon, I don't have one myself but I sew with a group of women every Thurday. Three in the group have the Ruby and absolutely love it. They have been so positive about it that I think when my Designer SE dies a Ruby will definitely be a machine I would consider. |

Date: 7/8/12 7:14 PM Thanks. This one I saw is almost brand new and the price is 1/2 of what the reviewers on PR said they paid. I am not sure if I would use the machine embroidery so I'm wondering more about its regular sewing ability. Does that seem OK on their machines? ------ Sewing: A creative mess is better than tidy idleness. ~Author Unknown

Date: 7/9/12 8:14 AM If you would not use the embroidery the Sapphire line is the same machine. Mine is my first computer machine. I garment sew. I like everything except the finicky needle threaded and automatic thread cutter.

Date: 7/9/12 11:12 AM I just got one a few weeks ago, and so far have only used it for sewing. Sews beautifully. Had one glitch where the machine suddenly stopped (overload message), and couldn't get it to resume. Had to take the bobbin case out, and a piece of thread had sort of tied itself to a moving part, jamming the machine. After I undid that, and rethreaded, have had no other problems. I like the information screen; at first it seemed like overkill, putting in the kind of fabric you are sewing, and then picking stitches and feet based on what it tells you that you need (which of course you could ignore), but that aspect has grown on me, especially while I get used to the machine. So far quite happy with it... ------ Viking Lily 545

Date: 7/9/12 8:04 PM Yes, I did! The machine in the ad is a few months old and barely used. He wants to recoup some of 6K cost, but knows he won't get that. I have thought about it, (and thought about it) but I'm not sure I really need another sewing machine. Someone should grab it quickly. ------ Sewing: A creative mess is better than tidy idleness. ~Author Unknown

Date: 7/10/12 7:25 PM I had the Ruby for just over a year before I traded it in on a Diamond DeLuxe. I LOVED the Ruby and did a lot of things on it. I actually regret trading it in for the Diamond since the Ruby was everything I really needed. The Diamond's larger screen is nice though, but $4,000 more than the Ruby. My only complaint about the Ruby was that the screen was on the small side for all that they cram on it.
My dealer told me a couple weeks ago that they are going to add the thread portioning system to the Ruby, like the Diamond DeLuxe. I think she said it's going to be called the Ruby Plus and are going to announce it during their convention in October. My guess it's going to raise the price of the Ruby though. -- Edited on 7/10/12 7:31 PM -- |
