I finally found a suitable knit fabric to use my Pamela's Patterns #109 Magic Pencil Skirt .

I need pockets and have put many of them in the side seams of RTW skirts that lacked them. I've used a nice woven lining fabric.

But I wonder if I should use a knit fabric -- like an old T-shirt cut up -- for pockets in the knit fabric? I think self-fabric pockets would be too bulky, though I will face the pocket bag closest to the body.

I recently tried on a few knit skirts with pockets. They used an invisible zipper, and the pockets were made of a very lightweight mesh. It worked really well.

I would use ambiance rayon lining for the side pockets. Nice and slippery where as a knit pocket would tend to stick to the skirt.

I have wanted to try this pattern after I saw it on one of my sewing buddies.

I agree with sewsally on using a lining fabric that won't stick to the skirt or sag. If you're planning to wash the skirt, tho, I think I'd go with an anti-static polyester lining. I love Ambiance but I don't use it in garments that I plan to launder.
