I've been making pants out of cotton twill for probably 40 years. It's always been an easy-care fabric. I prewash it on warm, dry it in the dryer on medium, and that's how I treat the garments when they're done. All of a sudden I go to the fabric store, and the same fabric has a care label of "machine wash cold, delicate, line dry." Why? It doesn't have Lycra in it or any special-care fibers. I started looking around, and lots of cottons now have that same care label. Are the manufacturers just trying to protect themselves from liability if your garment shrinks or something?
