Date: 7/17/12 5:00 PM I am about to start a messenger bag for my DH and the pattern calls for using either hair canvas as an interfacing or plastic canvas which I am not sure what either are--? The pattern also calls for using a piece of cardboard. Is this necessary or could I use that heavy duty dbl sided stiff interfacing--I forget the name of it-? Date: 7/17/12 6:56 PM I can't answer all your questions but plastic canvas is crafty stuff with about 1/8 inch holes. Some bags use it in place of cardboard as a washable stiffener. Hair canvas is a tailoring product used in coat and jacket construction. Beautiful stuff to work with but usually hand sewn in.
Can you provide the pattern info...maybe someone else done it? ------ Too much fabric to count... |

Date: 7/18/12 1:55 AM Plastic canvas is used for a stiff base in purses and bags and is also used in embroidery. It's a lot stiffer than hair canvas and is found in the embroidery area of a craft store. |

Date: 7/18/12 11:03 AM Hair Canvas is made of Goat hair and wool, and is normally used in Tailoring. Plastic canvas is used in needlework. In this case, you are looking for Stiffening. I would suggest that you use the plastic canvas, or/and whatever they have come up with as a replacement for TimTex. Ask at your fabric store - they should be able to help you. or go online, and google "Timtex replacement"
