There is a local Baby Lock dealership here that has a Baby Lock Sofia 2 for $800. Another Baby Lock dealership said they simply weren't going to be selling the Sofia 2 because it was not high in demand. There are two other sewing dealerships I have yet to visit.

Anyway, for those who have purchased, or seen the price of, a BL Sofia 2, how much was it? I sometimes get the feeling that this one dealership is over pricing stuff, but I can't be sure because no one really posts prices. (So annoying!) And yes, I do realize it does depend on the market.

From my understanding, the Sofia is just like the Brother SE400 or the Brother LB6800PRW sewing/embroidery combos, but I could be wrong. Those are about $350 and $425 respectively. The Sofia 2 might have more features than the Brother machines, and it will offer the dealer support. But I can see why some shops might not sell many of the Sofia 2 since you really can get a comparable machine for a lot less. That and the limitations on the hoop size...most people want at least 5x7.

But seeing how my dealer was going to sell me an Ellure Plus for $1300, the $800 on the Sofia 2 sounds about right to me. If you have a little more in your budget, try the Ellure Plus as it gives you the USB stick capabilities and a larger hoop (5x7).

Hi, the Sofia 2 is just like the Brother 950D sewing/embroidery machine. These machines have more sewing stitches than the other sewing/embroidery machines that you are talking about. Also, I think the other machines may only have have a connection to a computer, not a usb thumb drive. I would have to go and check that part out. Harriet
I forgot to mention that I saw the Babylock Sofia 2 selling for $799 at my local dealer here in Memphis, tn.

So, I guess perhaps the Sofia 2 is going for about $800. I was just curious.

I'm not yet going to get an embroidery machine (I may in the future) but I was considering comparable models from Brother, and when the time comes, I'll be open to a more higher end embroidery machine (if anything for the bigger embroidery space.)

I was just kind of curious if that one particular dealer was on par with the rest the area. The lady there was saying some very strange stuff (I don't remember off hand) about some Singers that I remember differed from what I learned in the forums. Then she'll tend to diss buying *anything* online - a sentiment I don't agree with but then again her bread and butter is in selling machines and notions.

Still curious as to what other areas of the country have the Sofia 2 going for.

About 6 weeks ago while generally shopping for a light weight machine, I saw and tried the Sophia 2 at two dealerships. Each wanted $800, both dealers were in NH. One told me that the price was going up in July, but that he had ordered a dozen to sell at the lower price because they're a hot seller for a travel machine. I resisted . . .

In my high priced area $999 was about the best, maybe 900 but that would be lucky.

$ 800 seems like the bottom type sale price for new!

I got a used one on sewitsforsale that hadn't been used by the owner for $550 plus about 50 shipping, and I snatched it up because i hadn't seen them very often used. I have seen a lot of the brother mass market ones like LBRPRw and SE 400, but not the sofia 2 or 950d.

Mine is made in China, not in Taiwan JFYI, but.... It has been the best machine. I am in love with it. It does everything a top notched machine does and it does it super well. Thread cutter, works every time like a charm, the embroidery is lovely, with the quarter inch foot I bought for it, my seams are perfect for quit blocks, needle up and down button, start stop button. It plowed through my quilt sandwich with the double fold binding and MINKEE for the backing (5 layers!).

I just can't get over what an awesome machine the sofia 2 is. and it weighs 13.5 lbs!

It made a noisy rattling sound at high speeds, and I got nervous, but read on the internet that you need to hold down the bobbin with your finger while thread the bobbin case and that seats it firmly, and ta da, no more bobbin rattle. When using a really thick thread, I loosened the bobbin tension screw a fraction and I liked the way the super thick thread ran.

I saw one in Tyler, Texas for $749. I'm in the Dallas area and haven't checked prices here.
