I wonder if it was crocheted with heavy thread or tatting yarn. I'd think that anyone with a design sense could do this... I doubt there is a pattern unless someone took a regular sized pattern and scaled it down. Someone with the agility to work the tiny stitches. Could it be machine made? I wonder.

My guess is that someone just worked small. There are knitting machines, but no crocheting machines.

So CUTE!

I found a link to the pattern on Etsy after searching Ravelry for miniature crocheted sock monkey. There are several other cute designs as well by Mariella Vitale. All very tiny. I can't imagine the hook size--and it must be thread.
