Swimsuit lining Can I use any 4 way stretch knit?

I thought I had enough swimsuit fabric to make another. I did have enough for all the pattern pieces but I wanted to line the bottom and there's not enough fabric for it. I have alot of 4 way stretch knit reminants in my stash... Can I use it? Or does it have to be swimsuit specific? If so what is the reason? I really don't want to buy a separate fabric just to line it. This is the first time making bathing suit for me... Thank you in advance for all the info!

You also want to be sure that it will hold its shape when wet. I usually use a swimsuit lining that is either 100% nylon or a nylon/spandex blend. I don't know if I'd want to use a poly ITY or a T-shirt knit for the lining. You could check how things will work by basting a piece of your swimsuit fabric to a piece of your "knit" lining and then wetting it and seeing how they react -- my concern would be the "knit" lining overstretching when wet. I like that the double layer of swimsuit fabric kind of makes it a bit forgiving for body issues, smoothing those out. Some fabrics are not chlorine resistant, so I usually buy my swimsuit fabric generously and then line with that. IF you find some swimsuit fabric that is close to your body colour, nude, taupe, etc, and get it for a good deal, buy that.

So I ended up taking my old bathing suit apart and used the lining. The outside fabric was stretched out but the lining was still good. I was planning to take it apart to use the bra pads anyways...

I bought a lot of swimsuit fabrics (and lining too) from both Spandex House and Spandex World. I'm very happy with everything I bought and they have a LOT of selection. Good prices too.

My mom asked me to make her one too, so I will need to do some fabric shopping. I looked at spandex world but there're so many selections. Which fabric do I look for swimsuit? I entered swimsuit under search but nothing came up.

It'll say what it's best suited to and needs to say "swimwear" or "swimsuits" otherwise forget it.
