I LOVE this dress from Rickis and have worn it so often it is really starting to show. I would really like to sew one like it but am having a difficult time identifying a pattern. I don't have a form to drape, and would rather start with a pattern rather than try to draft from scratch as my sewing time is minimal and precious!
Excuse the wrinkles, I wore it all day.
Shaping is done through darts (that are open, so I guess called pleats) that originate in the waist.

Back has darts below the waist, but none above. I'm shocked the upper back fits so well, but it is a perfect.

This last pic shows the true colour. The sleeves are cut on and have two released darts for shaping.

The fabric is quite stretcy, but is a woven. The lining is some kind of stretch lining, any suggestions on some names to search for?
Also, I am very hesitant to use a 'big 4' pattern. I have tried in the past and had utter failer and complete wadders. I do really well with Jalie and Kwik Sew sizing, but I can't find anything with either of these companies. Suggestions? -- Edited on 8/2/12 7:14 PM -- |

Date: 7/29/12 9:05 PM What a lovely dress! No wonder you want to make a knock off! Vogue 1025 has a similar pleated front, although it has a different neckline. Vogue 8685 lacks the pretty front pleat detail, but has a neckline that is similar to that of your dress. |

Date: 7/29/12 9:37 PM V1025 looks like a great start but the reviews here are not all positive. I would be fine with V neck too, with it raised a bit.
The hot patterns is really cute, but I think it has quite a bit more ease than what my dress has. Mine is quite form fitting and has a pencil skirt (not that that is hard to change!).
Thanks! I'll see if there are any more ideas, otherwise I think I might try to find V1025 for a good price :) |

Date: 7/29/12 9:38 PM I don't have a specific pattern suggestion, but it looks like something Burda would do. Maybe someone's seen something like it in BWOF? ------ - Labore est orare (work is prayer) - John Ruskin |

Date: 7/29/12 11:08 PM Butterick 5321 is a little similar too. The pleats are not sewn down.

Why not just copy that dress and make your own pattern? |
