I have a client who wants me to fix his ski sweater (yes, it's been hot and this is refreshing...). It has thumbholes in it which are torn and being as he doesn't want thumbholes, I told him I could replace the cuffs. Anyone have a source? Thank you!

I have seen this fabric at JoAnn's. It is 18 inches wide. I think mine had white. The website might have it too.

I have used the upper part of socks as cuffs. More choice of socks than ribbing in white.

Do you know what kind of yarn the sweater is made of?

I was thinking the same thing. Often the cuffs with the thumb holes are made of synthetic for quick drying.
The best fabric for cuffs has a little lycra for recovery.

Sorry I haven't replied sooner; the Replies to My Topics link said I didn't have any replies. Yes, the cuffs are synthetic. I would love to use DH's old socks, but they are 100% cotton. Joann's is such a hike for me, and I don't shop there much. So I'm looking to some other sites where (dare I say it??) I can buy some fabric to save shipping costs...

that's an idea, maybe you can find some wicking sports socks, that are synthetic.

I'd look at socks first, because the stretch factor and durability will be a little more predictable. There's some really wimpy ribbing-by-the-yard out there.

I have a much loved sweatshirt with knit cuffs that are on life support. I never would have thought to use socks. Thanks

Do you have a thrift shop nearby where you could look for a garment with suitable cuffs that you could "harvest"?
