A relative gave me some nice vintage fabrics.
They have that dry cleaning smell, not musty. I remember years back when you entered a fabric store and the smell of finishing in
the fabrics would hit you, sometimes make your eyes water to stay in the store. I assume these were processed in the US then. What do you use? I have heard just sunshine works?
I have washed some already, mostly knits, but the imbedded smell comes back when you iron. I did not put them in the dryer to seal it in.

If these fabrics are washable, I'd suggest a lukewarm water soak and washing soda (it's like baking soda, but for washing) I swear by this stuff after my cat peed on a quilt I was making as a gift. And yes, sunshine is the best to dry them!

The smell could be from the dye. Several years ago, I bought a black knit fabric that stank. Several washings later, it still smelled, so I tossed it.
