Date: 8/6/12 11:16 PM I was checking out these leggings from Lands End, and was wondering how to modify a regular leggings pattern to insert a zipper like this:
zipper leggings
Also, what would you call this type of zipper application?

Date: 8/7/12 4:25 AM I think I would call it an exposed zipper with a long triangular separate gusset inset underneath it?
So I think they had the normal legging pieces, and down near the hem, sewed one long triangle piece into it, with the point of the triangle at the top of the zipper and just inserted the zipper into that seam most likely. |

Date: 8/19/12 10:09 PM You can do this two ways. First, no matter how you do it, fuse 1 wide strips of interfacing 1" longer than the zipper opening. The most finished way is using a facing to get that neat, square ending at the bottom of the zipper and then sewing a triangle gusset to the seam allowances for the under layer. The other way is to sew the seam, basting the length of the zipper and baste the zipper in, being sure to center it. This won't give you that square end, but it's easier. To get the square end you need to sew a facing, silk organza is the easiest because you can see through it. I have only done this once and I made a lot of samples before I came up with a way to do it. Afterwards, someone gave me a link to Tany's blog with a very good tutorial on how to do it.
