Always FBA?

According to my Vogue fitting shell I do need to go up to a C-cup. Does that mean I should FBA all fashion patterns as well? If the fashion pattern's bust measurement is big enough as is, would I still get a better fit by doing a FBA? If I don't do one, would I get gapping front armholes in sleeveless? :confused: What other fitting adjustments are "always do" ones?

I found that even if a pattern has a 39" finished bust and I'm a 37DD bust, I may get the width, but still don't get the length needed for the "girls". I like the fit I get with an FBA. My blouses don't hike up in the front.

That's why you get a custom fit when you sew clothes. Mine is plus size, so I grade a lot of my patterns, do an FBA, and a short-waist, for an example.

The answer maybe. If you make the same styles and use the same type of fabric each time, the answer is probably yes. Because there's fitting ease and design ease, each pattern will fit differently and the fabric will affect the fit too. A soft rayon and a crisp linen could have a different fba. I've made anywhere from a 1" fba to none, and I always lower the dart and do a forward shoulder adjustment. ------ My grandmother taught me to sew when I was 10, and I've been sewing ever since.

Date: 8/13/12 10:10 AM As the others have said, it depends on the person and the patterns you generally use - the Big Four draft for a B cup but some independent companies draft for a C. I know I always need to do an FBA, personally, as I'm a D-DD, and I always do a muslin of the bodice when working with a new pattern. It may seem like a pain, but it's so worth it to make sure you get a perfect fit, and it really doesn't take that long to do :)
