Date: 8/16/12 2:42 PM I think this machine uses old floppy disks for its embroidery patterns...not that I'm entirely interested in embroidery anyway but it's nice to know before buying.
How does one use the embroidery programming for such machines? Floppy's just seem.....a lot outdated.....
The machine is selling for $550....so 'yay' or 'nay'...is it worth it? |

Date: 8/16/12 2:46 PM I would say Nay. Most embroidery designs are transferred to machines by USB flash drive. ------ Rebecca Pitts

1 member likes this. Date: 8/16/12 4:09 PM It is out-dated and due to that fact, 550 is high. For a sewing machine, it could be quite nice and you would have access to the built in designs that includes a nice floral alphabet and 5 other fonts that may be built in or come on a card that came with the machine. Names and monograms are about all I do w embroidery lately so maybe the same is true for you. $350 is more like it if in great condition. |

Date: 8/16/12 6:01 PM There is more than one model of the Ellageo.
For machine embroidery, you will need a way to copy downloaded design files to the floppy.
So, you need an external floppy drive. Is one included with the purchase?
In order to actually see any design file, you need machine embroidery software. At the very least, a catalog program.
Baby Lock has free updates for the Ellageo. This may, or may not be of interest to you. I like the on-screen design function. I did this for my Ellegante. You use the LCD screen and the stylus to create your own designs. Mine are pretty primitive!
Check with local sewing machine dealers (talk with the owner) and see if they will give you the blue book price. If you have a BL dealer tell him what you are looking at. He may tell you he can do a better deal. Again, speak with the owner.
Sewing alone may be worth $500.........depends on when it was last serviced and by whom. Does the owner have the Gold Standard Warranty, which can be transferred.

Date: 8/16/12 6:10 PM I know nothing, whatsoever, about this device. But it did show up in a google search for what it's worth.
But I doubt that an Ellageo is as easy to upgrade as a PC. |

Date: 8/16/12 9:33 PM Thanks for the help! I think I'm going to pass on this. I'm a beginner and I just don't want to deal with having to retro-fit or work around an outdated machine. I'll stick with my rinky-dinky el-cheapo Brother until I'm sure about what my needs are. |

Date: 8/31/12 9:30 PM I have a Brother ULT and the Babylock ESG3 machine. Yes, they take a floppy disk for embroidery designs but this is not the only method..they also use a Brother memory card. These software packages are available and the disks are re-programable. The screen is in color and hoop size is 6x10. If this is your first embroidery machine dealer support may get you going better than trial/error on your own. Many machines sold by heavy users are worn out and not worth the purchase or added repair bills are needed. ------ Janome10001, Babylock ESG3, Brother ULT 2001, White 634D serger, Pfaff 1472, Singer featherweight, Singer 14T957Dc, Bernina FunLock 009DCC coverlock, Brother PQ1500S, Janome CP900. |
